ABOUT MJC
The Mountain Jewish Community (MJC) started in 1985. Lizbeth Carlson put an article in the local paper “The Mountain News” asking people interested in forming a Jewish group meet at the Senior Center in Twin Peaks. The goal was to have an organized Jewish presence in the mountain.
Among the six couples that showed up were Carl and Shirley Cohen. They were very instrumental in founding the group. They stayed very active for many years and kept the group going.
Since its inception MJC has enjoyed a diversity of members of all different ages and backgrounds. Some are full time residents and others are part time, coming from as far away as San Diego ranging up to the San Fernando valley and all points inland. We have all joined together to become one large family of friends...a havurah.
Over the years the group has evolved to encompass three different interests: Social, Philantrophic, and Religious Interests.
